Touching the Asteroid
Saturday, February 27 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
On Oct. 20, 2020, the NASA spacecraft named OSIRIS-REx traveled some 207 million miles to reach out and grab a piece of an asteroid named Bennu and bring it back to Earth. The spacecraft successfully descended to a spot the size of two parking spaces and touched down for five seconds while extending its specialized arm to collect material from the surface of Bennu. It will send that sample on a two-year journey back to Earth then parachute down to the desert of Utah, and then the next step of exploration of Bennu will begin.
